The story of iGEM at Ruhr University Bochum is marked by instability. After achieving a gold medal in 2021 there were two more teams in 2022 and 2023 but both struggled to recapture the performance of the first team. As a result there was no Team in 2024 which led to a lot of knowledge being lost. Because of this our Team basically started from scratch and we had to do a lot of learning by doing which definitely did not make our iGEM journey any easier.

Our journey was challenging, and we made costly mistakes in WetLab and general project planning that cost us dearly. Because of this we decided to document all of the knowledge we acquired during this season to preserve it for future generations of iGEMers at Ruhr University Bochum or other Teams from anywhere in the world so they may learn from our mistakes and not have to go through the same hardship.
