My name is Jack Li, a rising senior studying the IB curriculum in Beijing, China, where I also serve as the overall team captain for YiYe China’s iGEM team. I first learned about iGEM through alumni who had participated, and I was immediately fascinated by the competition's focus on applying biological knowledge to create real-world impact. This interest deepened significantly when our team voted to center our project around breast cancer, an illness that has profoundly affected my own family in multiple ways. Motivated by this personal connection, I believe that iGEM provides me with a rare opportunity for my biology knowledge to extend beyond the classroom. I'm driven by the hope of contributing to new ways to diagnose, treat, and make progress towards a cure. My goal is to pursue advanced studies and research in oncology, focusing on innovative therapies and cutting-edge technologies that can make a tangible difference.
Hi! My name is April Wang (王梓璇), a student at The Masters School in New York, originally from Shenzhen, China. I’m passionate about fencing, especially épée, where the whole body is the target and each bout is a battle of timing, patience, and precision. Alongside, I’m also a classical pianist—Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and No. 6 are my favorite pieces for their bold energy and technical depth. I’d always love exploring Chinese history and literature, from ancient poetry to dynastic tales. As a feminist, I’m committed to using science as a tool for meaningful impact. Despite gradual progress, women remain underrepresented in many areas of society, particularly in healthcare. My interest in women’s health finds a clear direction through iGEM, where synthetic biology becomes a practical means to tackle real-world challenges.

My name is Zhiyu Qi, and I am currently attending Dougherty Valley High School in California. My passion for chemistry has influenced my path to study, sparking my curiosity about the world of molecules and their potential to solve real-world problems. Outside of the lab, I enjoy skiing, dancing, and listening to music because these activities balance my love of science, creativity, and sense of adventure. I am excited to participate in iGEM this year because it aligns with my long-term goal of contributing to the fight against breast cancer in women around the world. Through iGEM, I hope to collaborate with like-minded peers, hone my synthetic biology, chemistry, and math skills, and take a meaningful step toward a future where cancer is no longer a threat.
I’m Li Jiaxuan, a 10th-grade student from Xi’an, a city full of history. In my spare time, I enjoy reading various books to broaden my horizons, swimming to stay energetic, and playing the guitar to relax—these hobbies teach me focus and persistence.
What excites me most is biology. I’m always amazed by life’s mysteries, like how cells work or how ecosystems balance. I often read extra materials and try simple experiments, which fuels my curiosity to learn more.
Joining the iGEM project is my wish. I hope it lets me apply my interest, gain practical experience, and deepen my understanding of biology. I’m ready to learn and grow with the team.
I am Aoxiang Li from Wuhan Britain-Chinese School. I’m honored to have the opportunity to take a part in IGEM. I am truly curious about life sciences. In my free time, I enjoy reading various novels. My name is Andy Fenglin Zhang. I’m a 10th grade student from Beijing, China. I am passionate about coffee and coffee culture. I have taught myself how to make pour-over coffee and espresso and opened a coffee shop at school. At the same time, my love for biology has led me to conduct in-depth research on coffee. I once attempted to use enzymatic reactions to reduce the caffeine content in coffee beans to meet the needs of people who are intolerant to caffeine. I consider myself a person who loves to delve into things and hope to learn more about biotechnology and knowledge here.
I’m Yunze Hou (侯云泽). I’m from Beijing,China and I’m 13 this year. I study in Beijing Haidian Foreign language school. I’m pretty into sports, and I like football best.
