People That Deserve Special Thanks

Our project would not have been possible without the generous support of many people. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude in a dedicated post.

Incredible Support from our Instructors

Our team holds a deep gratitude for our instructors that words can hardly capture. Their unwavering support made it possible for us to fully explore the development and potential of this project.

We want to thank Patrick Gonschorek for always having an open ear for questions and being available whenever we felt overwhelmed by the challenges we were facing. You grounded us and made problems appear solvable when we alone could not.

We thank Christian Schelhas for - though being in denial about being an instructor for 50 % of the season - always pushing us to really harness the full potential of our project. Your critical insight and advice gave us clear guidance on what we need to invest to achieve our goals.

Melina Flakowski helped us a lot in setting up the project and meeting the goals of iGEM by sharing her experiences as a former iGEMer. You showed us that it is okay to make mistakes because you need to learn from them.

Simon Klute was a crucial figure in starting this team and connecting people from the very beginning. Your years of iGEM experience helped us significantly in finding our way through the iGEM journey and prioritize accordingly.

Critical Guidance from our PIs

Prof. Dr. Lars Voll agreed on supporting us from the very start, although we decided to focus this year’s project on NRPS and not plants. Lars gave us a lot of freedom to develop as a team but always was there for us to guide us in moments where we needed expertise and input.

Prof. Dr. Helge Bode shared his expertise and years of experience on NRPS with us which could not have been a more valuable input for this project. The scientific insight and ideas are greatly appreciated.

Prof. Dr. Isabelle Bekerdjian-Ding began as an interview partner on AMR, but it quickly became clear that her involvement in the project would extend far beyond that. Without her, testing our peptides as potential antibiotics would not have been possible, and her expertise and openness to new ideas consistently guided us throughout the project.

Dr. Adrian Bunzel was a big support for our dry lab team with his expertise in model building. Thank you for the time and resources you put into this project.

Prof. Dr. Anke Becker and Prof. Dr. Felix Willmund guided our project by posing critical questions and pointing out weaknesses, enabling us to evaluate our work more holistically

Valuable Insight from our Advisors

Participation in the iGEM competition has a long tradition in Marburg. This is why we are extremely grateful for the insight and advice that was provided to us by former iGEMers. Thanks to Clemens Böhm, Dascha Khalfine, Alexander Kuhne and Julia Rinn for sharing their experiences and guiding us in this project.

Hands-on Help from Working Groups

A lot of different working groups were involved in the realization of this project and we would like to show our appreciation for their support.

Bode Lab

The Bode Lab not only provided us with scientific knowledge but with access to their devices. We would like to especially thank Peter Grün, Elmar Meyer and Kevin Hoffman for sharing their expertise in experiment design, device handling and orientation in the lab.

Bekerdjian-Ding Lab

The Bekerdjian-Ding Lab helped us crucially with establishing the assays for the activity testing of our NRPs. In this regard we want to especially thank Nadine Siebert who always provided us with the necessary organisms and experimental materials.

Vázquez Lab

The Vázquez Lab and especially Dr. Frank Abendroth supported our idea for the chemical synthesis of a siderophore with an alkyne group from the very beginning and their guidance was essential for the successful synthesis. Thank you for providing us access to your lab and troubleshooting the synthesis until it finally worked.

Voll Lab

We would like to sincerely thank the Voll Lab for generously providing access to their equipment and for their help in receiving and forwarding our mail. Their support made a big difference to the smooth progress of our project, and we truly appreciate their assistance.

Computational Assistance from the MPCDF

We would like to thank the team of the Max Planck Computing & Data Facility for kindly granting us access to their HPC system Raven, which allowed us to perform high-throughput 3D structure predictions for our drylab project.

Financial Stewardship from SYNMIKRO Administration

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jan-Wolfrad Kellmann, Nadine Lang, and Sina Kühn for their invaluable guidance in navigating all aspects of financing this project. Jan, in particular, always had an open door for us and handled every challenge with such ease that problems seemed to disappear before our eyes.

Community Spirit through iGEM Meetups

We would like to thank the teams from Münster and Frankfurt for organizing the iGEM Meetups. Their efforts made us feel part of a vibrant community, and the meetups provided valuable insights that helped shape the development of our project. We truly appreciate the dedication and care they put into making these events possible.
