Jiankai Chen
I’m JianKai Chen from ReEnGene Team, also a new student of the 5+3 clinical training program at Tongji University. Harboring the passion and aspiration for biology that has been cultivated since high school, I signed up for the iGEM competition and became the student leader. For my self, I am fond of mathematics and applied mathematics. I am good at modeling and solving problems, and have won many awards. I also have a strong interest in singing, and I am capable covering songs from the games that I enjoy. As the oldest member of the team, when the team encountered problems during the experiment, I would actively lead everyone to solve them together. When someone is unclear about the concept of the experiment, I will explain it step by step using the knowledge from my high school career. When the dry team tasks are too heavy, I will coordinate and offer assistance. I firmly believe that the iGEM competition experience will become an indelible memory in my life journey, and will continue to inspire me to dive deeper into biology and medicine.
Fangan Xu
Fangan Xu, a senior in a public high school in China, somehow joined iGEM because of her personal interest and plan to major in biology-related fields abroad. By chance, I became the team leader. Fortunately, my previous experience in organization and planning helped me deal with the role. Organizing and planning are actually things I enjoy, so this opportunity turned out to be a great surprise. To make ends meet, I also contributed to writing the business plan, unexpectedly yet foreseeably, just as most teammates did to help out with the dry lab. Eventually, this “reaching out to dry lab” experience has further determined my mind to pursue biology on my future academic path.
Yiru Gai
Hi, my name is Kristy Gai. I’m currently a rising junior at Tsinglan School, and my hobbies include playing volleyball and watching anime. I’ve had a strong passion for biology since middle school, inspired by my biology teacher. Biology has taught me the scope of this world, and it reaches beyond our classroom. Zihan Li
My name is Zihan Li, and I am currently a high school graduate from The Cheltenham Ladies' College in the UK. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing badminton, listening to music, and studying foreign languages. My passion for biology was sparked by a personal connection—oesophageal cancer, an inherited disease in my family. Witnessing its impact firsthand motivated me to understand the biological mechanisms behind genetic diseases and inspired my curiosity about how science can be used to develop treatments and improve lives. This personal experience has driven my academic focus and deepened my desire to pursue biomedical research in the future. During high school, I actively participated in the Biology Olympiad and the Chemistry Olympiad. These experiences not only enhanced my understanding of these subjects but also deepened my curiosity and passion for exploring them beyond the classroom. Through my experience in iGEM, I gained hands-on laboratory skills, particularly in synthetic biology techniques, and deepened my understanding of molecular biology by applying theoretical knowledge to real-world projects in collaborative research. Additionally, iGEM presents an invaluable opportunity to strengthen my leadership and teamwork abilities.
