We are FeliSilence, an iGEM high school team.
Our journey began with curiosity — why can’t people who love cats live with them comfortably?
Driven by both empathy and science, we set out to design an RNA-based solution that could reduce cat allergens at the source.
We are students, dreamers, and young scientists who believe empathy is also a form of innovation.
Within our team, every member has a unique role — from wet-lab experiments and modeling to Human Practices, education outreach, and design.
Though still students, we think and act like young scientists: learning, questioning, and collaborating to make synthetic biology accessible, ethical, and full of care.

Roles: Lab and education. Outside of my roles in lab work and education initiatives for the team, I pursue several interests that shape my perspective: ballet, horse riding, reading (with the Harry Potter series as a favorite, and I am in Ravenclaw), and learning about zoology and everything to do with animals. I have two pets, a dog named Momo, and a gecko named flame, who brings joy to my daily routine. My personality type is INTJ, which reflects my preference for structured thinking and focus on long-term goals. I currently attend BIBA, an international school in Beijing, where biology has stood out as my favorite subject. This passion for biology led me to join the iGEM competition for the first time, it is a chance for me to explore the daily life as a scientist. And I look forward to applying my classroom knowledge to practical, collaborative scientific work.

Kyle Liu
Roles:Wet Lab & HP I am a G11 student from Beijing and I’m 16 years old. My favorite sport is basketball and I am a hot fan of post-rock music, and my favorite band is the Athletics. Moreover, I hope that I can learn how to be a drummer in the future (I’m not a good singer). I’m somewhat introverted but I enjoy conversation and discussions. I love the work in wet lab while enjoying the time when we are having interviews with companies who work in the field of our research. It is my pleasure to have such an experience in the lab.
Jessie
Job: Lab, wiki Brief introduction: I like all aspects of living things, from birds and mammals to microbiology, as I’m a fan of observing the sophisticated way that one moves, bird singing, insect pupation and cytoplasm streaming. In the iGEM experiment, I was impressed that we can alter life by gene editing. By simply pipetting regents into the tube, the empirical plasmid design turns into the eventual signal of successful modification in gene expression! Everything seems like magic, and I enjoy the repetitive experiment with expectations and pleasure! Besides investigating the mechanisms of these miracle things is also one of my interests, though it was tough in some cases, as I couldn’t shrink myself into a nucleotide. But all in all, digging deep into these principles was like climbing a long route to reach the Command Headquarters of life.
Xinchi Yao
wet lab & art and design hi all! This is Cindy. Within the team, I serve a dual role within the team, mainly contributing to both our primary wet-lab operations and our video production. In the lab, I conduct molecular biology experiments, including extract plasmids and transforming E. coli receptors. At the same time, I apply my video editing and writing skills by writing scripts, split frames and editing promotional videos. This involves storyboarding, and video editing to effectively translate complex research into engaging narratives for a broader audience. I find a unique synergy between the precision required for experimental protocols and the creativity needed for visual storytelling. I am passionate about bridging the gap between rigorous science and public engagement and am always eager to collaborate on new projects.
Colin
Hello, everyone. My name is Colin. In our iGEM team, I was involved in both the lab and the human practice sections. I did a PCR experiment in the lab, and I managed our Bilibili account. I enjoy doing experiments; my curiosity keeps driving me to find the answer to our research. At school, I joined many clubs, such as the biology club and the flag football club. I enjoy taking part in activities with my classmates and friends. Outside of academics, I love staying active and collaborating with others. Whether it’s designing a new biological assay or strategizing on the field, I thrive in team environments where creative ideas can flourish. I’m also deeply passionate about science communication—managing our team’s Bilibili channel allowed me to share our project with a broader audience and engage with the synthetic biology community. I believe in blending hands-on experimentation with effective outreach to make science both accessible and exciting. I’m eager to continue exploring, learning, and contributing to our iGEM journey together!

Gloria Huang
HP, Wiki, entrepreneurship, art design I'm Gloria, a g11 student from Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School. I'm really appreciated to be one of the team captains in iGEM competition. I have a deep passion for biology, especially conducting lab experiments and working on case studies. However, through this activity I was able to broaden my horizon even further by actively taking the lead in projects related to HP, art design, and entreprenuership. In the process of exploring new areas and discovering new interests, I also strengthened my leadership skills. I warmly welcome the opportunity to engage in academic exchange with all of you!
Yuyui Li
Hi! My name is Yuyui, and I’m part of the Wiki team for our iGEM project this year. I joined iGEM because, from what I’ve learned in textbooks and from my current knowledge, I believe that the field of synthetic biology can enable many unexpected and fascinating technologies. I also wanted to challenge myself with real-world applications of synthetic biology. Outside of the lab, I enjoy a variety of sports (golf, basketball, volleyball, badminton, road cycling...) and music, and you can often find me listening to music whenever I can. People would probably describe me as quiet and hard-working when they first meet me. However, once I get closer to someone, my sense of humor starts to show. I like to think I bring curiosity, persistence, and a problem-solving mindset to the team. For me, iGEM is not just about science — it’s also about creativity, collaboration, and sharing the excitement of synthetic biology with the wider community.
Zheng Lixuan
Role: HP Lead & Education As the Human Practices lead, I specialize in connecting science with human stories. A self-proclaimed "hybrid" who loves both literature, music and lab protocols, I believe that the most powerful solutions are born when data meets human story. When I'm not conducting stakeholder interviews or organizing community workshops, you'll find me writing short stories, composing song lyrics, or analyzing the narrative structure of the latest musicals. My background in psychology and education also help me design educational materials that actually resonate with different audiences - because nothing says "effective science communication" like a well-timed Hamilton reference in a workshop. I believe synthetic biology isn't just about what we can engineer, but how we can understand human responses to innovation. I'm passionate about ensuring our project is responsible, ethical, and accessible to all. Let's make science meaningful together!

Grade: 11th Grade - Works: Wet lab experiment team leader, Wiki webpage design, HP strip comics artist, art group cartoon design leader. - Hi there! This person here enjoys and love studying about biology. Also I am a artist who loves making cartoons and digital art. I'm big fan of manga and acg stuffs! I own three pet cats so I am definitely enjoying every part of our project!
Hannah
Hannah,Lab and HP,in my free days with no work I like to watch horror and A23 films as well as cosplaying and cosplay games—I even spent a whole weekend perfecting a witch costume last month, only to realize the hat was lopsided. I’m also a big fan of watching YouTube bloggers and all sorts of nice food videos or shop-visiting videos; special shout out to those food ASMRs, I must say that I’m literally addicted to those things—they make even plain noodles look like a 5-star meal. My talents include writing creepy novels, gaming till my hands go numb, as well as always being able to comment something sarcastic in any situation.
Leo Liu
Modeling Team Captain Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Leo and I am passionate about biochemistry and machine learning. In my spare time, you'll probably find me reading about drug design or information bottlenecks... or uh, debating about philosophy with my sister. I enjoy figuring out how things work from first principles, so I spend a lot of time trying to read random proofs and theoretical stuff I don't understand yet. My research interests span across many domains, so I enjoy learning about both theoretical machine learning and how it can be applied to real-world problems. I find applying abstract mathematical concepts to real world problems to be the coolest thing ever and you should too! In the future, I'll probably work in academia but for now, I still have almost 100 references to get through on Mendeley — so goodbye!

I’m excited to get to know all of you!
Hermione Wu
Lab, HP, Social Media, BP I am currently a junior at the Hotchkiss School in the United States, where biology has always been my favorite subject. When I first heard about synthetic biology, I imagined it had something to do with baking my favorite cinnamon rolls—but I soon discovered it was even more exciting. Since then, I’ve been eager to explore its possibilities and dig deeper into the field. Beyond the lab, I’m a dancer, a coxswain, an enthusiastic (self-proclaimed) professional cinnamon roll taster, and, admittedly, a bit of a shopaholic.
Shell Li
Wet Lab, Education, HP, Dry Lab Hey, I am Shell Li. I study in New Jersey, and am a Freshman in high school. Aside from a biology and science lover, I am also a rower and bassist. I love sports and music and sleeping! I also like potatoes. They are so versatile! I can roast, grill, fry, mash, whatever, you name it, and every single one of them would always be good (if only ur doing it right).
Jessica
Hello! I am Jessica, and I am part of the HP and Education team. I enjoy connecting science with people and finding creative ways to make research approachable to the wider community. I believe that science should not only live inside the lab but also reach communities. Outside of research, dancing is a huge part of my life—I love jazz, modern, ballet, and hip-hop. Each style gives me a different way to express myself, and together they bring energy and creativity into everything I do. Friends often say I’m lighthearted, approachable, and always ready for a good laugh, which makes me love working in teams. Being part of this project allows me to combine creativity, communication, and collaboration—all things I truly enjoy.
Dominic Shan
Arts and Aesthetics Hey! I’m Dominic, your arts department leader for the iGEM team, bringing a chill creative vibe to our wiki. As an artist and interactive designer, I love turning ideas into fun experiences—like my "Game of Life" board game, with its inclusive twists, or that water conservation website I crafted with a sleek, user-friendly feel. Debate’s my other passion—I’ve led BWYA’s Debate Club to NHSDLC & WSDA champs, honing my strategic and speaking skills. I also dabble in swimming and soccer, boosting my teamwork chops. With tools like Figma and Blender, plus Python and Arduino skills, I’m here to shape our project’s artistic side. Fluent in Chinese and English, I’m stoked to weave my global insights into designs that pop—let’s make this iGEM journey awesome together!
Tom Wang
My name is Tom Wang, and I am mainly responsible for laboratory work and wiki writing in our team. I am, and have always been, curious about how science can be applied in real life practically, which is one of the reasons I chose to join both the Lab team and the Wiki team. As our leader said, "The art designing team is like the appearance of our whole team." As one of the leaders of our art designing team, I have tried my best to design our team's uniform, which is a hoodie, and make it as nice-looking as possible. Since sixth grade, I have always been quite good at drawing, but I had never tried to design anything before—this was totally a challenging task for me. I spent hours and hours trying to create the best version of the hoodie. Finally, since I'm a big fan of the NBA, I incorporated some elements from the trendy hoodies that NBA stars wear. In the end, my design was successfully chosen by our leader and will be used at the competition venue in Paris. I think this design not only represents our entire team but also embodies the fashion style and ideas I hold. "Never stop chasing the best version of yourself.
Max
My name is ZHANG SHUHE, or Max for convenience. I am a high school sophomore at THISDL, an international school in Beijing. Being a former IGEM team lead, I am participating as an advisor in this year’s IGEM competition and am genuinely willing to assist our new generation of BWYA(known as Felisilence for the 2025 contest) team members to succeed in this fascinating activity. Regarding me interests in academics and daily life, I major in the field of biology(without a doubt), specializing on either ecology or synthetic biology. My daily hobbies, on the other hand, include character illustration(though I can’t draw shadows at all), rowing(half retired due to injury), cycling, reptile keeping, and daydreaming of fiction, which I am really willing to write into novels(but didn’t have time....yet). Finally, just for emphasis, I will do my best to help this year’s teammates in their project, yearning for more interactions with them.
Dalai Xu
Hello! I am Dalai Xu, a Junior at Dover Sherborn High School in Massachusetts. I had the incredible honor to advise this team this year. I was a past 2024 iGEM competitor, and I’m so glad to be able to share some insights with this team. Currently, my life revolves around labs, tennis courts, and classrooms. I started playing tennis when I was 6, and now I’m thinking about recruitment for college. I’ve been in biology labs since my freshman year and I’ve grew a deep interest in this field. However, my hope for the future is to be a doctor, most likely something in surgery.
Chunman Li
Student Advisor Hi there! I’m Chunman ~ I’m currently a rising senior at BWYA completing the diploma program and a second year iGEMer~ It was such an honor to be included in this team and project, watching the project getting planned and unfolding. As opposed to an “advisor”, I really feel more like a fan. Some things about me: I have two cats whom I am very allergic to, a tube of soap water on my desk that I carried from half way across the world, and I’m bad at counting. I’m excited to see what this project becomes and where iGEM leads us ~ we are the heart of synthetic biology after all <3
Zhang huaijun
I am a student at the University of California, Davis, majoring in Biotechnology, also a past iGEMer. In the lab, I provided technical and skills training for our team, supervised laboratory safety, and ensured compliance with experimental protocols. I was responsible for data processing and analysis using R and Excel to interpret experimental results.
