Education

Overview

Disseminating knowledge and enhancing public awareness of biology and peach tree gummosis are the objectives of our educational campaign. To achieve this, we organized two offline events at Fenghua High School, offering science popularization activities tailored to students of different age groups. Through these initiatives, we aimed to ignite their passion for biology.

Additionally, we designed a series of educational materials and interactive activities to boost public engagement and broaden participation.

Offline Activities

Two 'Cell Journey' Science Popularization Activities

Offline Activity 1

On August 2, 2025, the first 'Cell Journey' science popularization activity was conducted at the Biology Laboratory of Fenghua High School, organized by Jianing Tian and participated in by Ye Zhu, Jiayu Hu, and Yixiang Sun.

On August 10, 2025, the revised version of “Cell Journey” was reconducted at the Biology Laboratory of Fenghua High School again, organized by Ye Zhu and participated in by Jianing Tian, Jiayu Hu and Xuanlin Bao.

Offline Activity 2

In these two offline events, we brought together students of different ages to explore the amazing world of cells together -- all to ignite their passion for biology and science!

  • Part 1: Biology Mysteries Unveiled

    Biology Mysteries Unveiled

With the guidance of three awesome iGEM mentors, the students first dove into the amazing world of cells through a fun and engaging science video! Then, the mentors broke down complex cell biology in a super easy-to-understand way, step by step. During the Q&A session, the kids couldn’t wait to share their answers—their eyes sparkling with pure curiosity for life sciences!

'Scratch-and-Guess', a small game was played to help memorize the names of cell structures, developed by using PPT (Created by Ye Zhu).

  • Part 2: Discover Biology with Clay

    Discover Biology with Clay

Under the guidance of three young instructors, the children carefully observed models of cellular organelles and skillfully recreated their shapes using clay. This hands-on activity helped solidify their understanding of the organelles' structures in a fun, memorable way. Through playful learning and educational play, a seed of curiosity was planted in their minds that day.

  • Part 3: Adventures in Microscopy

    Adventures in Microscopy

Using microscopes like real scientists, the kids got to see actual cells with their own eyes—mind blown by the amazing micro-world! And when they crafted their own slides? Total focus and that awesome 'I did it!' feeling!

  • Part 4: Eternal Life in Specimens

    Eternal Life in Specimens

This activity was far more than a visual feast—it was a profoundly moving lesson about life itself! From dazzling butterflies to majestic beasts, from peculiar insects to exquisite plants, the children witnessed firsthand Earth's breathtaking biodiversity and the wonders of evolution. Each specimen became a window through time, allowing them to "converse" with countless creatures, quietly planting seeds of awe for nature and curiosity to explore life's deepest mysteries!

Education Tools Development

In 2025, we have developed a simple and efficient way to produce educational videos. Here is a brief introduction.

  • Step 1: Create high-quality slides

The initial draft of the slides was complied in Chinese by Ye Zhu and Jianing Tian.

Slides were produced later based on the poster by Ye Zhu and Yu Xia.

  • Step 2: A video was generated by full-screen video recording while playing PPT.

Simply use the Microsoft Built-in Screenshot Tool!

  • Step 3: Audio was recorded by using the Miaojian.

Just use the cell phone nearby!

  • Step 4: Video was finally produced by the WPS video editing tool or any software you use.

Social Media Platforms

We record our activities through our Xiaohongshu and Bilibili. We upload our daily lab activities to share biology and science knowledge in different ways.

Summary

We have organized a series of educational initiatives designed to enhance public understanding of biology and synthetic biology, while sparking widespread curiosity in these fields.

Broad Participation

By combining online and offline platforms, we ensure wider accessibility. Our diverse activities—from organized events to WeChat articles and Xiaohongshu posts—employ multiple approaches to engage broader audiences. Through social media discussions about the project, we aim not only to reach academic circles but also the general public. We consciously lower participation barriers to ensure inclusivity without compromising scientific rigor.

Hands-on Experience

Offline activities feature practical sessions like slide preparation and microscope observation, offering participants direct, immersive encounters with scientific exploration for a more authentic and engaging experience.

Feedback & Evaluation

To continuously improve our programs' effectiveness, we collect feedback through surveys and discussions. This iterative process refines our educational methods to ensure they remain both impactful and appealing to diverse audiences.
