Mechanism

ArMOLDgeddon achieves antifungal activity by preventing both active growth and further spread. The rigid cell wall of mold is composed primarily of chitin and glucans.
The chitinase and glucanase in the product create a synergistic action, targeting both the chitin backbone and protective glucan layer. This ultimately, leads to cell lysis and cell death. The enzymes not only degrade the layers, but also penetrate and break down spores and mycelia, providing a long-term inhibition. Lysozyme adds to the effect by hydrolyzing the cell membrane and disrupting overall cell wall integrity.
In parallel, geraniol, a natural monoterpenoid, provides an additional antifungal effect, while also enhancing consumers' user experience through its pleasant aroma. By combining enzymes and geraniol, Armoldgeddon delivers rapid, broad-spectrum, and long-lasting protection against indoor mold

Inspiration:

Based on our interview with the doctor, we learned that mold commonly grows on the filters of air conditioners and air purifiers, yet many people are not aware of this issue. Mold on filters can not only block airflow but also release spores, causing allergies or even infections. To solve this problem, we designed a filter containing our enzyme that can effectively break down the cell walls of mold and spores, thereby preventing potential health risks

Inspiration:

Based on the interview with individual households, we identified that a pain point of current spray mold removers is that when cleaning mold on the ceiling, the liquid component in the product may drip and come into contact with the user's eyes, potentially causing harm. Thus, we are designing a gel product to ensure that during implementation, our product does not accidentally enter sensitive areas such as the user's eyes

  1. Safe application — Gel texture prevents dripping, reducing the risk of contact with sensitive areas like eyes
  2. Better adhesion — The gel sticks to vertical and overhead surfaces, ensuring longer contact with mold

From the interview with the Mold Removal Institution, we identify that the mold spores in the air have the possibility to adhere to the wall and cause a mold problem. Thus, we have developed the coating, aiming to reduce the impact of airborne spores and prevent mold formation at its roots.

Besides sprays and atomization, we also designed innovative mold removal stickers, which can stay on the wall for a long time without drying out and avoid excess water exposure.

  2. Water stain free application - Avoids potential damage to the wall caused by water stains
  3. Convenient - Easy to apply and remove, making it suitable for local or hard-to-reach mold spots
  4. Accessible for the low income group - Considering that the low income group may be excluded from high-price device, we designed it with a simple composition of a plastic bottle and two cotton sticks. Various groups of the population may utilize our design with minimal financial burden

Inspiration:

When interviewed a staff from cultural relics protection department, he said that since protecting cultural relics is a delicate task, they require instruments capable of precisely controlling usage amounts. Therefore, we have developed this titration device along with matching sachets of powder. This enables them to not only control the amount of solution used but also manage their concentration

Benefits:

  1. Accurate dosage — Conservators can apply the exact required amount, avoiding excessive use
  2. Controlled concentration — Enables precise preparation of solutions with adjustable strength for delicate tasks

Inspiration:

Based on our interviews with Professor Ke and a mold remover expert, we learned that current spray products often fail to reach ceilings and other hard-to-access areas. They also pointed out that atomized products can increase the contact surface area, thereby improving the effectiveness of our enzymes. Based on these insights, we developed an atomization device.

  1. Better coverage — Fine mist reaches ceilings, corners, and hidden areas that sprays can’t easily access
  2. Promote prevention — Atomized droplets spread evenly and create larger surface contact, boosting enzyme effectiveness
