Safety and Security

Laboratory Safety

Safety has always been and always will be a priority and the most important aspect that lab workers uphold. In HKSSC labs, we understand the importance of being safe while conducting experiments. Here are some of our safety measures.

One teacher, research assistant and lab technician are always present when we’re doing experiments, and all accidents or injuries will be reported to the school office and treated immediately.

We have a wide variety of safety equipment in our lab:

Laboratory Training

Every lab member in our team was required to take a week of training before they were allowed to conduct any laboratory experiments. This involves learning how to use safety equipment, how to handle special mechanics, chemicals, and what to do during emergencies. We have professional supervision during all our lab work sessions. These training sessions ensure safety in our lab while conducting experiments related to our project.

Mindfully Designed

Our research has been assisted by professionals in the field from universities such as Hong Kong University and Chinese University of Hong Kong. All the chemicals and organisms are included in the white list, and we do not do any prohibited activities listed. No animal or human was harmed during the process of our experiment.

Mindfully Designed

Experimental results proved our FLG gene non-toxic to cells. All students are supervised by professonals during the entire process of the experiments.

Project Risk Management

We understand that our project may cause harm to the health and safety of humans and animals if misused. But we ensure that the fully engineered organisms are unable to spread in the environment and cause health hazards. Our E-coli is contemporary and will die if in contact with dihydrogen monoxide.
