In this section, we will elaborate on the usage scenarios of our project concept, the potential safety risks, and the possible applications of our project's conception in other fields in the future.
In our conception, the engineered bacteria will be carried on bacterial cellulose membrane carriers. The bacterial cellulose membranes will cover the surface of the paintings with diseases, and after our engineered bacteria function, the bacterial cellulose membranes will be removed without affecting the subsequent work related to the paintings. The bacterial cellulose membranes will be stored in a solution containing nutrients and arabinose before use, so as to provide nutrients for the engineered bacteria and arabinose as a survival factor in working condition.
Since our product needs to be used in unexpected areas in the laboratory, we have evaluated the possible safety risks and designed to avoid them. Our engineered bacteria carry a regulatory element, which will activate the transcription of the downstream mazF protein when there is no arabinose in the environment, degrade the RNA inside the engineered bacteria, and make them unable to survive.
In different environments, the identification of bacteria and fungi may require different identification conditions. By modifying the promoter, we can easily make the product identify bacteria and fungi in different ways and inhibit their growth. Similarly, the highly modular nature of our product also allows the application of effect proteins to recognize different conditions and perform different functions.
