Safety Module

Initial Concerns

  • 1. There was a risk that engineered bacteria could survive and replicate outside the body, potentially causing environmental harm if they were excreted and entered natural ecosystems.
  • 2. Should the engineered bacteria migrate from the nasal cavity to the lower respiratory tract, they could potentially trigger infections or other detrimental effects, attributable to their engineered characteristics.
  • 3. When engineered probiotics, intended for human application, do trigger undesirable clinical risks—albeit with a minuscule probability, what measures can be promptly implemented to curb these risks?
  • 4. The practicality of our design must also consider the stability and safety of the engineered bacteria during transportation and storage, as well as their compatibility with potential delivery methods.
