International Collaboration
NIS Kazakhstan Team Collaboration
For our collaboration with the NIS Kazakhstan iGEM team, we were part of an
international Human Practices project: a children's educational book about skin health and the safe use of
cosmetics. They invited iGEM teams from around the world to write fairy-tale style stories, and we contributed
a chapter focused on acne care and the importance of the skin as a natural
barrier.

making skin health education engaging and accessible
Community Outreach Events
DNA Replication Workshop
To educate communities on synthetic biology and inspire interest in science for
younger generations, we hosted a workshop to help educate middle schoolers on DNA replication.
- Introduced DNA replication concepts in a clear and age-appropriate way
- Deepened learning through an interactive Kahoot quiz
- Provided hands-on activity where students could understand the codon wheel
better
- Combined explanation with interactivity to inspire curiosity about molecular
biology
Immune System Workshop
We hosted an outreach workshop to introduce middle school students to the immune
system and its role in protecting the body.
- Explained basic functions of immune cells, responses, and viruses
- Connected concepts to our project by showing how acne interacts with the immune
system
- Demonstrated real-world relevance through interactive discussions and
activities
Strawberry DNA Extraction Events
We hosted events for younger students where they could extract DNA from strawberries, providing a tangible
introduction to genetics and molecular biology.
- Explained the basics of DNA and our team's objectives
- Guided students through the DNA extraction process
- Enabled students to see the DNA that makes up living things
