Project Abstract
Erythritol, a natural sweetener, combines the advantages of low caloric value and high stability. Currently, chemical production methods for erythritol are economically challenging, driving increased research focus toward microbial synthesis. Our primary objectives are to enhance erythritol yield and production efficiency. To achieve this, we first optimized and integrated the erythritol biosynthetic pathway in bacteria using molecular biology techniques. Furthermore, we introduced a glycerol metabolic pathway. This dual approach reduces byproduct formation while expanding utilization of cost-effective substrates, directing metabolic flux toward erythritol production.Glycerol represents an abundant, low-value renewable resource. Its application as a substrate for fermentative erythritol production has garnered significant research interest in recent years.
