Women in science in Latin America: Inspiring inclusion through synthetic biology
The team can position itself as an example of how the participation of young women in science helps break stereotypes and pave the way for new generations.
By showcasing a team of mostly women in synthetic biology, they inspire girls and young women in Latin America to pursue careers in science, breaking gender stereotypes.
The team reinforced equitable access to education and science, contributing directly to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). In this way, we position the team as a benchmark for inclusion and equity within the iGEM community, strengthening LATAM's visibility.
In conclusion, our team, made up mostly of women, demonstrates that science in Latin America can and should be inclusive. By highlighting the role of women in synthetic biology, we seek to inspire new generations and contribute to reducing gender gaps in STEM fields. We believe that diversity strengthens innovation, and that every step toward equal opportunities in science is also a step toward a more just and sustainable future.
