V.V. Giri Girls High School, Giri Road, Berhampur

Our first visit was to V.V. Giri Girls High School, named after the late Hon’ble President of India, V.V. Giri⤴︎. We interacted with the Class 10 students, all bright young girls filled with curiosity and questions.

Starting the Conversation

We began with our usual introduction—sharing who we are, why we had come, and what inspired our project. The discussion flowed naturally into the first part of our Teaching Learning Material (TLM). We spoke about the elements of life and the biosphere, their roles in our bodies, and how contamination enters through natural and human-made pathways. The conversation slowly built into the importance of awareness and responsibility.

Map-Based Quiz

To keep the interaction lively, we introduced a map-based quiz. Each student received a map of India along with clues, and they had to mark places connected to contamination and environmental case studies. The exercise was not about testing knowledge, but about recall, awareness, and connecting science to the places they live in. The energy in the classroom was contagious—students eagerly discussed, guessed, and highlighted locations together.

Posters and Stickers

Before concluding, we pinned posters across the school that showed the pathways of metal contamination and its impacts on human health. We wanted the message to stay visible even after our session. As a small token of memory, we also distributed stickers to the students, something they could carry with them as a reminder of the day’s discussions.

In Reflection

The visit to V.V. Giri Girls High School was a fitting beginning to our school outreach journey. It set the tone for the days ahead—honest conversations, creative activities, and lasting impressions. For details of our common resources, please see the Teaching Learning Material (TLM).
