What is Mussel Foot Protein?
Mussel foot protein is a viscous protein that is secreted by mussels' foot filaments. It has strong adhesive ability which enables them to attach to different surfaces in the ocean environment and prevents them from being washed away by strong currents. The protein can be used in antibacterial coatings on medical devices, due to its resilience, longevity, and its excellent waterproof ability.
Uses of antibacterial coatings
Reduce infection risk, improve long-term implant stability, enhance implant hardness.
